|
Steve Teekens is an Ojibway, who currently lives in Toronto and is a
member of Nipissing First Nation. Steve is a proud father of three,
traditional drummer, singer, and Grass Dancer. Steve has taught
drumming and singing to men and youth in Toronto for the last 13 years.
When Steve does drum-making workshops he takes the time to share
teachings on the drum and how to take care of it and how to feast it.
Steve is the Lead Singer of Red Spirit Singers. Some of the events
outside of Pow Wows he has drummed with Red Spirit Singers are:
• July 2002 Drummed for the Pope on World Youth Day
• September 2002 Traveled to Andong City South Korea
for a dance festival
• August 2006 welcomed visitors from around the world
to the 2006 Toronto World AIDS Conference at the opening ceremonies at
the Rogers Centre.
The Drum has been good to Steve and has helped to promote healing and a
sense of pride in his culture, when delivering his workshops Steve
reflects this to the participants.
