Mi’gmaq Elder - Pabineau First Nation

Gilbert Sewell is a Mi’gmaq Elder, historian, folklorist, storyteller, guide, woodcarver, Mi’gmaq language instructor and small business owner from Pabineau First Nation, New Brunswick. He is the recipient of several awards including the NB Human Rights Award, The NB Eco Award, Orono, Main Museum Award, and the Canadian Merit Award - all attributed to his tireless dedication to sharing, expressing and teaching others about his Mi’gmaq culture.

He has had audiences with Pope John Paul II, Prince Charles, Lady Diana and the Consul of France; and has been featured on APTN, CBC TV/Radio, and the Discovery Channel.
In March 2004, Mr Sewell received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal from the Lieutenant Governer of the province of New Brunswick.
